About RIHAKU

Captivated by the beauty of written characters at the age of four, RIHAKU has devoted over 50 years to the art of calligraphy. Based in New York and Japan, she serves as a consultant for the Japan Calligraphy Art Museum and a professor of the Japan Education Calligraphy Federation, while actively nurturing the next generation of calligraphers.
Through her original style ‘3D Calligraphy,’ she fuses traditional sumi ink brushwork with projection mapping, VR, and acrylic — elevating calligraphy into a spatial art form. Since her first solo exhibition in New York in 2014, she has performed and exhibited internationally, including at the Japanese Embassy in Washington D.C. and prominent galleries in New York.
Her work spans immersive projection mapping performances at UNESCO World Heritage Site Todai-ji Temple, mindfulness calligraphy workshops sponsored by JP Morgan and Reitler, and brand identity design for Michelin-starred restaurant Kumiko Room by Yoshi Kousaka at One Bryant Park, NYC — embodying the fusion of tradition and contemporary business.
Guided by her belief that ‘calligraphy holds the power to move hearts and transform spaces beyond the limits of language,’ RIHAKU continues to push the boundaries of what ink can do.
