The title of this piece is “With Love and Prayer”. This expresses the “Hannyashingyo” (Heart Sutra) as a prayer for the repose of the souls of the victims of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. The letters of the Heart Sutra are written in pure gold ink on indigo paper, with some letters written in silver to form the shape of a heart. The scattered dots drawn in pure gold ink express my wish for each one of the victims’ souls to ascend to heaven. Especially as I myself experienced the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Kobe 16 years ago, I truly wish to send my prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls, and for the revival of Northern Japan, to New York and throughout the world through my calligraphy.
今回の作品『With Love and Prayer愛と祈りを込めて』は、東日本大震災で犠牲になった方々の魂の鎮魂の祈りを込めて、「般若心経」を元に表現している。藍紙に純金で般若心経を 書き、その中に銀で文字色を変えてハートの形を浮き上がらせた。その上に、純金でちりばめられた点は、犠牲者の方の魂ひとつひとつが天に昇ってほしい、と いう願いである。16年前の神戸での大震災を経験した私(理白)だからこそ、自らの書を通して、鎮魂と復興の祈りをニューヨーク、そして世界へと発信した いと願っている。
